Hello! I’m very glad you’re here!

It takes a lot of courage to seek out therapy, and I’m glad you’re considering allowing me the honor of working with you! I’d like to tell you a bit about myself. I am a psychotherapist, licensed in the state of Texas as an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). I am located in Waco, Texas, and have lived in Waco for 15 years.

I attended Baylor University and graduated from their MSW program in 2017. In 2021 I opened my current private practice, Susanna Doss Counseling Services, and committed to specialization in obsessive-compulsive spectrum concerns and trauma recovery. Although OCD concerns are one area of specialty, I also very much enjoy working with folks who have other concerns such as more generalized anxiety, depression, and who may be going through transitions or grief.
I am also a mother, wife, dog and cat parent, daughter, sister, third-culture kid (born and raised overseas), and a person with a neurodivergent brain. These identities help me in connecting to my clients and understanding their perspectives.

One of the things that sets me apart as a clinician is my commitment to ongoing training and certification. I believe firmly in evidence-based care, and was lucky enough to begin my training with highly talented supervisors through Baylor University, and continued on to receive training and supervision from the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) for Exposure and Response Prevention, the gold-standard therapy for OC-spectrum issues. These include Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, specific phobias such as emetophobia (fear of vomiting), and intervention for body-focused repetitive behaviors such as skin and hair picking. I am also formally trained in several modalities for intervention with trauma, such as Prolonged Exposure (PE), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Because neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism spectrum, sensory differences, etc) very often co-occur with OCD, I pay attention to these professionally as well, and often connect my clients to resources for these concerns if needed. I constantly seek new information and training from online and in-person resources so that I can offer these to my clients.

I want to note that although I love digging into the mind and understanding it, I don’t believe that good intervention ends there. I try to incorporate body/somatic work (breath work, meditative practices, etc) in sessions which I believe are very transformative to the whole person!

Lastly, I believe in connection and vulnerability. I believe that we are both harmed and helped by our relationships with others, and that the therapeutic relationship is one of the many ways that we can progress! I am committed to truth-telling, goal-setting, and healing. If this sounds like something that you’re interested in, I’m excited for the possibility of working with you!
